NC State's McCall leaves vs. Wake Forest on stretcher after scary hit
NC State quarterback Grayson McCall left Saturday's 34-30 loss to Wake Forest on a stretcher after taking a big hit.
McCall's helmet came off as the signal-caller was being tackled by multiple Wake Forest defenders near the end zone. He was able to hug his parents on the cart before being taken out of the game.
NC State head coach Dave Doeren said postgame the reports on McCall from the hospital have been positive, according to Noah Fleischman of The Wolfpacker.
McCall was released from the hospital in good spirits, and all his scans were normal, the team announced.
McCall - who missed the previous two starts due to an undisclosed injury - returned against Wake Forest and completed 3 of 5 pass attempts for 42 yards before exiting Saturday's contest. He was replaced by CJ Bailey.
Bailey completed 28 of 42 passes for 272 yards and two touchdowns against one interception against the Demon Deacons.
McCall joined NC State in December 2023 after spending five seasons at Coastal Carolina. The Wolfpack play Syracuse next week.
