USC names Cody Kessler starting quarterback

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports / Reuters

Last season Cody Kessler had to compete with Max Wittek to become USC's starting quarterback. With Wittek now gone and deciding where to transfer for next season, Kessler is the man for the Trojans.

Kessler led USC to a 10-4 record last season, but had to hold off a challenge from redshirt freshman Max Browne to remain the starter under new head coach Steve Sarkisian.

Last season, Kessler completed 65.4 percent of his passes for 2,968 yards with 20 touchdowns and seven interceptions. Entering his junior season, Kessler should have a chance to thrive in Sarkisian's fast-paced, no-huddle offense.
