Auburn's Elijah Daniel dismissed from team following arrest
Defensive end Elijah Daniel has been dismissed from the Auburn football team following his arrest on charges of theft and burglary.
"I have decided to dismiss Elijah Daniel from our team," head coach Gus Malzahn said in a statement, according to Brandon Marcello of AL.com. My hope is that he will learn from this situation."
Arrested Wednesday, Daniel was taken in on four theft of property charges, including two of the third degree, as well as four burglary charges ranging from the second to third degree.
The junior had appeared in all 27 games over the course of his first two seasons with the team, recording 3.5 sacks and 24 tackles.
Daniel was set to compete with the likes of DaVonte Lambert, Byron Cowart and Gimel President for a starting role at defensive end heading into the 2015 season.
