Prized Michigan redshirt freshman Jabrill Peppers may see more than one side of the ball this season.
Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh spoke of the possibility of Peppers splitting his talents between three possible roles for the Wolverines in the upcoming season.
"There's three ways that you can contribute. You can contribute offensively, defensively and on special teams," Harbaugh said, according to MLive's Nick Baumgardner. "It's rare that someone does offense, defense, and special teams. The rare three-way player.
"It's exciting when someone's capable of doing that, it means they have some real gifts athletically and they're really smart and sharp enough to understand three different systems."
Peppers entered Michigan as a five-star recruit, ranked nationally as the top cornerback and the No. 2 recruit in the country. After two separate injures kept him off the field during his true freshman year, he was granted a medical hardship waiver.
Playing a variety of positions is nothing new for Peppers, who saw time as corner, wide receiver, running back, quarterback, punt returner, and kick returner at his New Jersey high school.
Peppers really impressed Harbaugh during spring practice, causing the coach to talk about both his work ethic and talent on the field.
"If you have the capability athletically of doing that and you have the desire to do that, then we'll explore it," Harbaugh said. "Jabrill's never struck me as someone who has ever (had) his head spin (on the field). He's not one of those type of youngsters. He has a very tight grip of his mind, he's very sharp and very focused.
"Nor have I seen him unconfident. He's very confident in his abilities."
