19-year-old student wants to coach Rutgers football

A report surfaced Wednesday that Al Golden has become the top name for Rutgers' head-coaching vacancy, but the former Miami coach may face a threat from a very unlikely candidate.

Nineteen-year-old Rutgers student Ben Kautz has applied for the position, and associate athletic director Geoff Brown has pledged his vote (not that he has one) to the cause, sending the application to new athletic director Patrick Hobbs.

So what makes Kautz the best candidate for the position?

"First off, I have never been fired from a head-coaching job," the New Jersey native told Joe Giglio of NJ.com. "Secondly, I think my age will allow me to build a very long dynasty at Rutgers, and I will be able to relate to the players better than the other candidates."

Kautz continued by referencing his experience, or lack thereof, and low salary demands.

"Look at my past coaching experience, I rarely lose," he noted. "Finally, all the other coaches demand a high salary, I simply want free tuition for my last two years, and a small salary while on the job - however I am certainly open to being paid $5 million per year."

Following a season in which former head coach Kyle Flood was suspended three games for improper contact with faculty members regarding the grades of his players, Kautz is drawing attention to his clean record.

"In NCAA football (video game) I was never punished for recruiting violations. Take that as you may," he said.

Coach Kautz and Rutgers sound like a match made in New Jersey football heaven.
