The poor television ratings for the College Football Playoff continued in Monday's championship game, as final viewing numbers were down 15 percent from last year's final, a source told John Ourand of the Sports Business Journal.
The report comes after a disastrous rating for the semifinal games on New Year's Eve, which were down a whopping 36 percent from the first year of the College Football Playoff.
While many attributed the semifinal drop to the placement on New Year's Eve, most thought the final would attract a large audience for a desirable No. 1 vs. No. 2 matchup.
With both participants coming from the southern United States, the contest failed to attract a national audience like last year's game between Ohio State and Oregon.
Those who did tune in were treated to an instant classic, with Alabama outscoring Clemson 24-16 in an explosive fourth quarter to capture the program's fourth championship in seven seasons.
