Philadelphia Flyers sixth overall pick Porter Martone committed to Michigan State, he and the school announced Monday on Instagram.
Martone is the latest high-profile prospect to leave the CHL for the NCAA since the Division I Council voted to make CHL players eligible for college hockey, beginning with the 2025-26 campaign.
The 18-year-old winger racked up 37 goals and 98 points in 57 games as captain of the OHL's Brampton Steelheads last season. Martone represented Canada at the world juniors and was a mid-tournament injury replacement for Bo Horvat at the World Championship.
Michigan State landed Columbus Blue Jackets 2024 fourth overall pick Cayden Lindstrom as a commit out of the WHL in June. Martone also joins fellow Flyers prospect Shane Vansaghi in East Lansing.
The Spartans lost out on projected 2026 No. 1 pick Gavin McKenna to Big Ten rival Penn State earlier in July. Ike Howard, the 2025 Hobey Baker winner, left Michigan State for the pro ranks after the Tampa Bay Lightning traded his rights to the Edmonton Oilers on July 8.
Michigan State has enjoyed a resurgence under head coach Adam Nightingale. The program has won back-to-back Big Ten titles, which ended its conference championship drought since winning the CCHA in 2006. The Spartans have claimed the national title three times, most recently in 2007.
