Fantasy Fallout: Gerardo Parra's Injury Provides Fantasy Owners With New Life
Here are the fantasy repercussions following Rockies OF Gerardo Parra landing on the 15-day disabled list:
#Rockies OF Gerardo Parra will go on 15-day DL with high left ankle sprain. He'll spend a week in a walking boot. No corresponding move yet

Season-Long Fantasy
Parra, owned in 60 percent of leagues, had been a major disappointment thus far. After slashing .291/.328/.452 with 14 home runs and 36 doubles a season ago, many expected Parra to have a monster season moving to the best hitters ballpark in all of baseball. The transition did not go as planned.
The two-time Gold-Glover was hitting just .263/.274/.424 with five home runs heading into Wednesday, when he was carted off the field after an outfield collision.
It's still not out of the question that Parra could return and play to the caliber that many expected heading into the season, but if you're out of DL spots in any format, don't lose sleep over dropping the underachieving outfielder.
Though no corresponding roster move has been made as of yet, expect Ryan Raburn to assume everyday duties in left field. Known for his ability to hit left-handers and his second-half-heroics, Raburn has posted an .852 OPS in limited action this season. In deep leagues or NL-only formats, Raburn is an adequate replacement for Parra.
In standard 10 or 12-team leagues, better replacements can be found.

Waiver-Wire Targets
- 1B/OF Brandon Moss, Cardinals: Moss can provide the thump in your fantasy lineup that you hoped Parra would provide. Over his last 12 games, the late-blooming slugger has hit .390 with seven home runs. He likely isn't a long-term fix, but riding him on his current hot-streak could pay dividends. His 34 percent ownership is likely on the rise.
- OF Whit Merrifield, Royals: For those looking to boost their fantasy team's batting average, look no further than Merrifield. Since being called up in mid-May, the 27-year-old rookie has a .326 average with 12 extra-base-hits, three steals and 16 runs scored in just 97 plate appearances. He is available in 94 percent of leagues.
- OF Robbie Grossman, Twins: Parra was a fantasy burden in general, but especially if you're league has OBP. Luckily, Grossman can give you a major boost in that category. The switch-hitter is batting .333 with a .471 OBP this season, and has found a home hitting second in Minnesota's lineup. He is owned in just six percent of leagues.
