Fantasy Fallout: Hill is a great buy-low candidate with move to Dodgers

Here are the fantasy repercussions following the Los Angeles Dodgers' acquisitions of Oakland Athletics SP Rich Hill and OF Josh Reddick:

Rich Hill

The move down the coast of California could provide a big boost in fantasy value to Rich Hill, although it's unclear when his blister on his finger will be healed enough for him to continue pitching again. A blister can be a nuisance to any pitcher, but especially Hill, who relies so heavily on his curveball.

Hill is the definition of a late bloomer. He was enjoying his best season at the age of 36, compiling a 2.25 ERA, a 1.092 WHIP and 90 strikeouts in 76 innings. He miraculously had a record of 9-3 despite pitching for the bottom-feeding A's. He should receive more run support from a Dodgers team in the thick of a playoff hunt.

Pitching in the National League, where he will face an opposing pitcher and pinch hitters rather than a DH, should also help Hill improve statically. The American League is also known for having smaller ballparks, although O.co Coliseum is pitcher-friendly, as is Dodger Stadium.

What might be the biggest factor in Hill's potential statistical improvement is the defense. The Athletics have the worst UZR and RngR in the entire league, according to FanGraphs. They rank at or near the bottom in virtually every other advanced defensive metric.

The Dodgers, on the other hand, rank eighth in RngR and 10th in UZR. Reddick and his cannon arm will provide a nice boost to the outfield.

If Hill's owner in your league is short on DL spots, do your best to acquire him via trade if you have a DL spot available. He might be willing to sell low on him given the uncertainty with his blister, but he could be a major help down the stretch and in fantasy playoffs.

Josh Reddick

It's ironic how the 2014 Dodgers had a major logjam in the outfield with Yasiel Puig, Andre Ethier, Matt Kemp and Carl Crawford. Kemp and Crawford are no longer with the club, while Ethier has been sidelined with a leg injury all season long. Puig, on the other hand, has continued to be a headache off the field, and his production has tailed off.

In steps Reddick, who should provide much needed stability to the lineup. Although he wasn't providing the power numbers that he had in the past, he was still productive, hitting .296/.368/.449 in 272 plate appearances.

Expect Reddick to handle left field every day, while Howie Kendrick can return to a super utility role and start at second base against left-handed pitching.

In terms of the batting order, don't be surprised to see Reddick's name penciled in at the leadoff spot at some point in time. The Dodgers lack a "true" leadoff hitter, so Chase Utley (.335 OBP) has filled that role. Reddick and his .368 OBP would provide a significant upgrade.

If Reddick does indeed hit leadoff, or even second, his fantasy value should rise. The protection of SS Corey Seager, 3B Justin Turner and 1B Adrian Gonzalez is much better than what he had in Oakland. This would likely lead to more hits and runs.
