Nike releases Air Jordan I golf shoes

The golf course is about to get a massive dose of swag, as Nike will release a golf shoe version of the Air Jordan I on Feb. 10.

The shoe was originally introduced in 1984 prior to Michael Jordan's first season with the Chicago Bulls, and was a smash hit both on and off the court.

"MJ introduced his provocative style of play to professional basketball in 1984, and the Air Jordan I shocked the world at the same time," vice president of Nike Golf Footwear Gentry Humphrey said in a statement. "Interestingly, Michael started to take up the game of golf in 1984, the exact same year Nike started to develop the Air Jordan I."

Jordan has been an obsessive golfer since he first picked up a club over 30 years ago, and has even served as honorary vice-captain of the United States Ryder Cup team. The crossover of the Jordan I to the golf course certainly fits the model as to why the shoe was made in the first place.

"The Air Jordan I was the first sneaker that really pushed the limits on what was acceptable." Jordan said. "It's like being a young kid, when his parents say he can't do something but he wants to do it. I felt like I wanted to be different."

Keegan Bradley currently wears custom Jordans on the golf course in his PGA Tour events, so it's likely viewers will see this latest model on television at some point.

The Air Jordan I golf shoes will retail at $200 US upon their release this Friday.
