Dani Alves confirms he's leaving Juventus in farewell post
Dani Alves is nearly clear to join Manchester City after saying goodbye to Juventus.
Ending his Italian adventure a year prior to the end of his contract, the 34-year-old said money was not a factor in his decision to leave.
He is widely expected to reunite with former Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola at City on a two-year contract.
"I would like to thank all the Juventus fans for the year I experienced, to my teammates for welcoming me like the real professionals they are, for a club that wins and plays in finals," Alves wrote on Instagram, as translated by Football Italia.
The marauding right-back, who won a domestic double in his only season with the Bianconeri, added an apology to any supporters who may have felt "offended" by his exit.
Earlier this month, Alves appeared to question the ambition of the club in comments directed at one-time teammate Paulo Dybala. In order to win trophies, the Brazilian said Dybala "will have to leave Juventus."
Alves clarified himself on social media: "I apologise to the Juventus fans if sometimes they thought I had done something to offend them. This was never my intention. I just have a very spontaneous way of approaching life that few people understand ... even though it appears I am not perfect, however, my heart is pure."
Rather than sell the player for a nominal fee, Juventus CEO Giuseppe Marotta agreed to terminate Alves' contract. Reports initially indicated that Juve would receive a €5-million fee from City, which apparently beat Chelsea for Alves' signature.
The Old Lady has yet to officially cancel his contract, although that is a formality.
Alves put in vital performances for Massimiliano Allegri's side toward the end of the 2016-17 campaign, registering a goal and two assists in the Champions League semi-final legs.
