Hanley vows to cut signature dreadlocks if Red Sox come back in ALDS
Hanley Ramirez has vowed to cut his signature dreadlocks if the Boston Red Sox can somehow come back from a 2-0 deficit in the best-of-five American League Division Series showdown against the Houston Astros.
And with his trademark look potentially hanging in the balance, Ramirez implored Red Sox fans to be ready Sunday afternoon at Fenway Park for their must-win Game 3.
"They'd better be ready to go," Ramirez told Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe. "When you're eating breakfast, get your energy and come support us. We'll be ready to go."
After two dismal games at Minute Maid Park, the Red Sox could use a home-field advantage. In Game 1, the Astros torched Chris Sale, slugging three homers off the six-time All-Star en route to an 8-2 victory. The following afternoon, the Astros were no kinder to Drew Pomeranz, chasing him after just two innings, with home runs from Carlos Correa and George Springer powering Houston to yet another 8-2 win.
Now, with Doug Fister poised to get the ball for Game 3, the Red Sox are faced with the prospect of getting swept out of the ALDS in successive years. The very thought is anathema to Ramirez, who happens to boast a .956 OPS for the series after going 2-for-3 with a double in Game 1 before drawing a walk in four plate appearances in their Game 2 loss.
"No, no. Not two years in a row," Ramirez said. "We got to find a way. That's why we're pros. We got to find a way to win."
