Till moves on from 'Wonderboy,' challenges a game Nelson to fight in UK

Per Haljestam / USA TODAY Sports

If Stephen "Wonderboy" Thompson isn't interested in throwing down, Darren Till will find someone who will.

The surging welterweight's initiative was rewarded with a taker in Gunnar Nelson after Thompson's trainer and father, Ray Thompson, refuted reports they'd been attached to a date with Till in England for early next year. Till has been campaigning for the UFC to make a maiden voyage to his native Liverpool, and Nelson gladly took him up on his callout Friday evening:

The development comes mere days after UFC president Dana White revealed his plans to book Till versus Thompson in the UK, designs the elder Thompson put the kibosh on when speaking with MMA Fighting's Ariel Helwani on Wednesday.

The UFC's only scheduled trip to Britain for 2018 thus far is a Fight Night in London on March 17. Should Till and Nelson end up sharing the cage, the former would look to preserve his unblemished record and improve to 5-0-1 in the UFC, the latter to rebound from an 82-second KO suffered at Santiago Ponzinibbio's hands at UFC Fight Night 113 in July.
