A hot start to the 2017-18 season could pay off for Doug Armstrong in a big way.

The St. Louis Blues general manager is in talks with owner Tom Stillman about a contract extension, Stillman told Jeremy Rutherford of The Athletic.

The news comes with the Blues jumping out to a 17-8-2 start to the season, which has them just two points behind the Winnipeg Jets and the Tampa Bay Lightning for the top spot in the league.

Armstrong pulled off one of the biggest trades of the offseason when he brought Brayden Schenn to St. Louis. The move is paying dividends for the Blues, as Schenn has 30 points in 27 games this year.

The general manager's current five-year contract expires at the end of this season.
