Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith confirmed North Carolina contacted him about its head coach vacancy, but he's happy where he is.

"Reality is (North Carolina) reached out on preliminary call. I appreciate it, love that place, but that’s not my focus," Smith said Thursday. "I’ve got one of the best jobs in football right now. There’s a lot to be said, too, about can’t put a price on personal and professional happiness, which I have here. Love that place, appreciate it, but that’s usually how it goes. People cast a wide net and then some narratives get out of control."

He added: "I've got an awesome job here. Love it here in Pittsburgh."

The Tar Heels announced earlier this week that they will be firing longtime coach Mack Brown after the 2024 season. Smith has been linked to the opening because UNC is his alma mater. The Steelers' offensive coordinator began his coaching career as a graduate assistant for North Carolina in 2006.

Smith is in the midst of his first season as the Steelers' offensive play-caller. The unit ranks 14th in points per game (22.9) and has been effective on the ground, ranking eighth in rushing yards per game.
