Report: Mets have discussed trading Harvey with at least 2 teams
There might not be a Dark Knight sequel in the Big Apple.
The New York Mets have held trade discussions with at least two teams about right-hander Matt Harvey, multiple sources confirmed to Kristie Ackert of the New York Daily News.
"They are willing to move him," one source said. "They said they wanted to try and flip him for a reliever. They seemed more willing to move him than (Robert) Gsellman or (Seth) Lugo."
The club is said to be willing to move on from Harvey if that means improving in several areas of need, including second base, first base, either corner outfield spot, and the back end of the bullpen. The Mets have been linked to Pittsburgh Pirates utility infielder Josh Harrison as well as second baseman Starlin Castro, who was recently traded from the New York Yankees to the Miami Marlins as part of the Giancarlo Stanton deal.
After emerging as one of the best starters in baseball from 2012 to 2015, Harvey has regressed in large part due to a variety of health issues and inconsistency. His 2016 season was cut short due to thoracic outlet syndrome - a condition that affects the lower neck and armpit.
He returned this season but in May, was suspended by the team for three games for violating team rules. He later underwent shoulder surgery in June and missed approximately two months of action. He would finish 2017 with a career-worst 6.70 ERA and 21 home runs allowed across 18 starts. Harvey earned $5.12 million this year and will become a free agent in 2019.
