Browns officially hire Todd Haley as offensive coordinator
The Cleveland Browns officially introduced Todd Haley as the team's new offensive coordinator on Wednesday, with the veteran coach coming over from the division rival Pittsburgh Steelers.
Head coach Hue Jackson said Haley's ability to adapt his schemes to best fit his players was a major attraction in the hire.
"We're thrilled to bring Todd Haley in as our offensive coordinator," Jackson said. "He has been a guy that has adjusted his offense to successfully complement and taken advantage of his skill set of his personnel. I've witnessed firsthand how prolific his offenses have been in the AFC North over the last six seasons."
Jackson also confirmed that he will turn play-calling duties over to Haley.
Haley spent the last six seasons with the Steelers, where he oversaw one of the top offenses in the league. He previously served as head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs from 2009-11 and has coached in the NFL for 21 seasons.
"The Browns have a great history, great fans and deserve to have fun and experience some winning," Haley said. "There is obviously a lot of work to do in order to get there, but I've always been excited about facing a challenge."
Moving from the Steelers to the Browns will certainly be a massive change for Haley, who will no longer have the talented trio of Ben Roethlisberger, Antonio Brown, and Le'Veon Bell at his disposal. Pittsburgh ranked third in the league in yards per game last season while also finishing eighth in scoring. The Browns finished with an 0-16 record, ranked 24th in yardage, and finished last in points scored, averaging a paltry 14.6 per contest.
