After being turned down by Peyton Manning, ESPN is casting a wide net as the network attempts to fill the analyst role on Monday Night Football left vacant by the departure of Jon Gruden.
That net has included another former star quarterback in Brett Favre.
Sources told Andrew Marchand of the New York Post that Favre recently auditioned for the job, but is no longer under consideration after a less-than-stellar showing.
Favre certainly doesn't have broadcasting experience, but following the rousing success of Tony Romo in the CBS booth last season, that doesn't appear to be a sticking point for networks anymore.
According to Marchand, ESPN has also auditioned current players Jason Witten and Greg Olsen, with more tryouts upcoming.
