Wolves wonder Ruben Neves left off Portugal's 23-man World Cup squad
The reigning European champion has unveiled its World Cup squad.
Wolverhampton Wanderers starlet Ruben Neves, who was named on Portugal's 35-man provisional World Cup squad submitted Tuesday, was surprisingly not in manager Fernando Santos' final plans despite a stellar Championship season in which he guided Wolves to promotion to the Premier League.
Leading the way, naturally, is Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, who will be competing in his fourth World Cup and hoping to inspire further Portuguese success after the nation's Euro 2016 triumph.
The full squad is as follows:
GK: Rui Patricio (Sporting Clube de Portugal), Anthony Lopes (Lyon), Beto (Goztepe)
DF: Cedric Soares (Southampton), Ricardo Pereira (Porto), Pepe (Besiktas), Jose Fonte (Dalian Yifang), Bruno Alves (Rangers), Ruben Dias (Benfica), Raphael Guerreiro (Borussia Dortmund), Mario Rui (Napoli - on loan from Roma)
MF: William Carvalho (Sporting CP), Joao Moutinho (Monaco), Joao Mario (West Ham - on loan from Inter), Manuel Fernandes (Lokomotiv Moscow), Adrien Silva (Leicester City), Bruno Fernandes (Sporting CP)
FW: Bernardo Silva (Manchester City), Goncalo Guedes (Valencia - on loan from Paris Saint-Germain), Gelson Martins (Sporting CP), Ricardo Quaresma (Besiktas), Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid), Andre Silva (Milan)
