Report: Wilshere's tenuous role at Arsenal alerts Crystal Palace
Crystal Palace is reportedly adding its name to the list of top-flight sides interested in signing Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere.
Wilshere, whose current Gunners terms expire on June 30, has been linked with an exit as his role in the squad becomes uncertain with the appointment of Unai Emery. According to the Mirror's John Cross, Eagles boss Roy Hodgson is intrigued by the prospects of luring Wilshere to Selhurst Park after the two worked together with England.
The 26-year-old was allegedly offered an incentive-laden £110,000-a-week contract by former Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger that would reward the oft-injured midfielder for hitting certain appearance markers and other performance-related criteria. Wilshere is understood to have rejected the offer.
Since joining the north London lot as a 9-year-old, Wilshere started just a dozen league matches last season, pairing a goal with a trio of assists.
With the club close to securing the services of Uruguayan defensive midfielder Lucas Torreira and the chances of another middle-of-the-park merchant leaving in the summer slim, Palace is just one of several clubs reportedly monitoring the player. West Ham, Wolves, and Everton have all sniffed about, while Serie A sides AC Milan, Sampdoria, and Juventus have all reportedly made inquiries.
