Report: RFA Smart 'hurt and disgusted' by Celtics' lack of communication
The Boston Celtics may not be making a smart move.
As NBA free agency has slowed down to a glacial pace, Marcus Smart has yet to receive a call from Danny Ainge and has grown frustrated with the lack of outreach from his team. And while he "loves" the Celtics, Smart is "hurt and disgusted" by Boston's lack of communication, a source close to Smart told Mark Murphy of the Boston Herald.
The restricted free-agent market hasn't yielded much for players yet, aside from a somewhat eyebrow-raising reported three-year, $33-million contract given to Dante Exum to remain with the Utah Jazz.
Most would consider Smart a better player than Exum at this point in their respective careers, but besides the qualifying offer extended his way on June 29, the fourth-year guard hasn't heard a peep.
Smart was expecting a three- or four-year deal from the Celtics but is prepared to play out the season and then enter next summer as an unrestricted free agent, the source told Murphy.
The 24-year-old is one of Boston's emotional leaders both on and off the floor, and losing him after next season could leave a significant hole on the bench.
