Report: Heat agree to re-sign Ellington to 1-year, $6.2M deal
Wayne Ellington will call South Beach home for at least one more year.
The Miami Heat have reportedly reached an agreement on a deal to re-sign the sharpshooter to a one-year, $6.2-million contract, league sources told ESPN's Chris Haynes.
Based on the one-year Bird restriction, Ellington will have the contractual right to veto any trade. This signing also puts the Heat at 12 guaranteed contracts, and pushes them over the tax by $3.2 million, according to ESPN's Bobby Marks.
"I feel great here in Miami. I've built very strong relationships with a lot of people. These guys that I go to war with every night, we've gone from strangers to teammates to brothers. This is where I wanted to be," Ellington told the Associated Press' Tim Reynolds.
Ellington experienced a career year in 2017-18 with Miami, averaging 11.2 points and 2.8 rebounds in 26.5 minutes coming off the bench.
He also shot 39.2 percent from behind the arc and converted 227 total 3-pointers, which tied him for sixth overall in the Association while setting a league record for the most ever by a non-starter.
