The Boston Celtics signed restricted free agent Marcus Smart to a multi-year contract Thursday, the team confirmed.
It's a four-year, $52-million deal, sources told Yahoo Sports' Shams Charania.
The two sides appeared to move closer together over the past week after reports surfaced earlier in July that Smart was frustrated by his lack of communication with the Celtics.
Despite being just a 36 percent field-goal shooter for his career, Smart has been a valuable cog for the Celtics because of his ability to defend all five positions. He also led the team in steals in each of the past two seasons.
