Report: Cowboys tried to lure Witten out of retirement
The Dallas Cowboys and head coach Jason Garrett made multiple attempts in recent weeks to lure former tight end Jason Witten out of retirement, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Witten rejected the attempts and is reportedly committed to his new career as a broadcaster. He's in his first season as an analyst on Monday Night Football.
The Cowboys have received little production from their tight ends this season, with Geoff Swaim, Blake Jarwin, Rico Gathers, and Dalton Schultz combining for 406 receiving yards and one touchdown. In 2017, the final season of his career, Witten recorded 560 yards and five touchdowns.
Entering Week 14 against the Philadelphia Eagles, the Cowboys have won four straight games to vastly increase their playoff odds. The team's offense has improved since the acquisition of wide receiver Amari Cooper.
