The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have fired head coach Dirk Koetter after three seasons at the helm, the team announced.

"We sincerely appreciate the hard work and commitment shown by Dirk over the past several years. Working with Dirk has been a pleasure and we wish him and his family all the best in the future. Our search for a new head coach will begin immediately and will be conducted by General Manager Jason Licht," owner/co-chairman Joel Glazer said in a statement.

Koetter was initially hired by the Buccaneers as offensive coordinator in 2015 and was promoted to head coach after Lovie Smith was dismissed following that campaign. He compiled a record of 19-29-0 with only one winning season.

The Buccaneers finished second in the NFC South at 9-7 but missed the playoffs in Koetter's debut campaign as head coach, but they finished fourth in 2017 and 2018.
