Rozier texted Wade in November to request jersey
Boston Celtics guard Terry Rozier made sure to get his request in early for Dwyane Wade's jersey.
The pair participated in a jersey swap following the Celtics' 115-99 loss to the Miami Heat on Thursday, which Wade later revealed was planned a couple of months ago.
"Let's (go back to) late November," Wade said ahead of Saturday's game, according to Anthony Chiang of the Miami Herald. "I wake up the next day, and I got a text at 4 in the morning from Terry Rozier. He's like, 'Yo, I'm going to need that jersey.' So I go and I look at when we're playing them, thinking we're about to play Boston. I'm like, 'We don't play y'all till January.' So he put his request in early and let me know at 4 in the morning to make sure that when we play them he needed that jersey. We have that kind of relationship."
Rozier, who idolized Wade as a child growing up in Ohio, told reporters "it was mandatory I got his jersey." He isn't the first player to request Wade's jersey this season, either.
"I have a list. Sometimes the list doesn't always go the way that I want it to go,” Wade said. "Some guys on my list I don't have amazing relationships with. Then I play against certain teams and I realize that 'Oh dang. This guy's over here.' And guys that I've been in the league with for a while, they come up and they make requests, too. 'We played against each other for 10-plus years and you gave your jersey to a rookie?' probably is their mentality, so I definitely get requests and I take some."
