Report: Fournette challenges Jaguars' voiding of his guarantees
Jacksonville Jaguars running back Leonard Fournette has formally challenged the team's decision to void over $7 million in remaining salary under his rookie contract, a source told Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio.
Fournette's guarantees were nullified after he was suspended in November for leaving the bench to fight Buffalo Bills defensive end Shaq Lawson.
An arbitrator will decide whether Jacksonville will be able to convert more than $2.9 million in 2019 and more than $4.1 million in 2020 from Fournette's fully guaranteed rookie deal into non-guaranteed money.
The 2017 fourth overall pick missed eight of his team's 16 games this season. He's scheduled to hit unrestricted free agency in 2022.
Jaguars head coach Doug Marrone told reporters Wednesday that he met with Fournette last week and believes the running back is "in a really good place," according to team writer John Oehser.
