The Dallas Cowboys are picking up the fifth-year option in running back Ezekiel Elliott's contract, the team announced Wednesday.
The move keeps the star rusher under team control through the 2020 season and will pay him $9.09 million for that campaign, according to Spotrac.
Elliott, the fourth overall pick of the 2016 draft, has wasted no time producing at the pro level. He put up nearly 2,000 total yards in his rookie season and, after a 2017 campaign that was shortened due to suspension, he led the NFL with 1,434 rushing yards in 2018.
The Cowboys have already discussed contract extension with offensive stars Dak Prescott and Amari Cooper, while Elliott might be next in line.
