Report: Kemba to be Lakers' top target following Davis deal

Kemba Walker will be a top free-agent target for the Los Angeles Lakers after they came to an agreement in principle with the New Orleans Pelicans on a deal for Anthony Davis, sources told Marc Stein of The New York Times.

The Pelicans reportedly agreed to trade Davis to the Lakers for a package including Lonzo Ball, Josh Hart, Brandon Ingram and the fourth overall pick in this year's draft earlier Saturday.

Walker has played his entire eight-year career with the Charlotte Hornets franchise. Though the 29-year-old has enjoyed individual success, including All-Star berths in each of the past three seasons, the team has reached the postseason in just two campaigns during Walker's tenure, losing in the first round each time.

The impending free-agent point guard has said he's open to taking less than a super-max contract to remain with the Hornets but does intend to meet with other teams when free agency opens.

Los Angeles is intent on building around LeBron James, who's signed with the Lakers for another three seasons. His first season in L.A. was a disappointment as the team finished 10th in the Western Conference with a 37-45 record and played 27 games without James due to injury.
