Beecher was among a slew of U.S. NTDP players eligible for this draft, and while he wasn't one of the top prospects, he was effective in his own right this past season.
The Elmira, N.Y. native collected nine goals and 14 assists in 36 exhibition games in addition to his 20 points in 27 USHL contests.
Beecher, who is committed to the University of Michigan for 2019-20, models his game after Winnipeg Jets forward Blake Wheeler, according to NHL.com.
He was projected by many to be a second-round pick after ranking 49th on NHL Central Scouting's final list, moving up four spots from his placement at the midterm.
What they're saying
"He's already got a pro frame and speed to go with it," NTDP coach John Wroblewski told NHL.com's Jessi Pierce last October.
"His game is all predicated on that size and speed," the bench boss continued. "There's really nothing in between. He's shown he can display his attributes at the highest level of amateur hockey right now, with him being able to play our game against 23-, 24-, 25-year-old men. It's been quite impressive to see that."
