Blue Jays designate Edwin Jackson for assignment
The Toronto Blue Jays have designated right-handed pitcher Edwin Jackson for assignment, the team announced Tuesday.
The 35-year-old's tenure with the club lasted 28 1/3 innings - including five starts - following a mid-May trade from the Oakland Athletics. Jackson accrued a ghastly 11.12 ERA with a 2.18 WHIP as a member of the Blue Jays after posting a 3.33 ERA across 17 starts for the playoff-bound Athletics in 2018.
Despite his overall struggles in Toronto, Jackson pitched three shutout innings in relief on Monday, which caught the eye of manager Charlie Montoyo.
"(He) was throwing harder, he was throwing strikes, and his slider was really sharp," Montoyo said, according to Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.
Toronto was the 14th team that Jackson has suited up for across 17 MLB seasons, an all-time record for any player.
In a corresponding move, the Blue Jays added right-hander Jacob Waguespack to the 25-man roster.
