Report: Dodgers remain engaged with Red Sox about Betts
It's been a quiet offseason for the Los Angeles Dodgers, but that could potentially change.
After months of preliminary discussions, the Dodgers remain engaged with the Boston Red Sox about a trade for outfielder Mookie Betts, people familiar with the situation told Andy McCullough of The Athletic.
In recent days, dialogue with Boston has reportedly approached a resolution.
While the Dodgers don't appear to be interested in dealing prospects Gavin Lux or Dustin May, McCullough provides a list of other potential trade candidates, including Enrique Hernandez, Chris Taylor, Alex Verdugo, and Tony Gonsolin, as well as farmhands Keibert Ruiz or Josiah Gray.
Another scenario being discussed, and one that actually appears to be complicating things, involves sending former American League Cy Young winner David Price to the Dodgers along with Betts, McCullough adds.
Price is owed $96 million over the next three years and is coming off one of the worst seasons of his career (4.28 ERA in 22 starts).
Also complicating matters for the Dodgers is the reported interest in Betts from the division rival San Diego Padres. The Padres appear to be deep into trade discussions with the Red Sox for Betts and appear to have already discussed names, according to a report.
If the Dodgers were to acquire Betts, they'd beef up their chances of winning their first World Series since 1988.
The 27-year-old has hit .301/.374/.519 with 139 home runs, 470 RBIs, and 126 steals during his big-league career. He's made four consecutive All-Star teams, won four Gold Gloves, and was named the AL MVP in 2018.
