Report: Arsenal yet to offer Aubameyang new contract
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's Arsenal future appears even more uncertain after sources told ESPN's Julien Laurens the club is yet to offer the striker a new deal.
Aubameyang's contract is set to expire in June 2021, alerting clubs to his potential availability this summer or the opportunity to acquire him on a free transfer at the end of next season. Chelsea are reportedly considering a move for Aubameyang if they fail to sign Moussa Dembele from Lyon when the market reopens.
Aubameyang, who turns 31 later this month, has netted double figures in each of his past nine seasons in France, Germany, and England. However, the Gabonese marksman has yielded just a single DFB-Pokal triumph and two DFL-Supercups with Borussia Dortmund, and a final win with Saint-Etienne in the now-defunct Coupe de la Ligue. This has led to suggestions he should seek more silverware away from Arsenal before it's too late.
"On an individual level, we all consider him to be among the best players in the world, but the advice I give to him is to continue to work and to attract the attention of the biggest clubs and the most ambitious clubs," the president of Gabon's football association, Pierre Alain Mounguengui, said in April.
Aubameyang has finished as a runner-up in both the League Cup and Europa League during his time with the Gunners.
Arsenal signed Aubameyang from Dortmund for £57.4 million in January 2018. He's scored 17 times in the 2019-20 Premier League season, putting him two goals behind top scorer Jamie Vardy of Leicester City.
