6 days until golf: Players worth being excited about when PGA Tour returns
The PGA Tour plans to restart its season June 11 after halting due to the coronavirus pandemic. Each day until then, we'll highlight key moments, people, or facts relating to where we are in the countdown.
We're less than a week away! As we continue our preview for the PGA Tour's fast-approaching return, here are six players to be excited about when play resumes.
Bryson DeChambeau
If you haven't been following Bryson DeChambeau's transformation over the impromptu offseason, you're missing out. He's going to appear much different when golf resumes.
DeChambeau is looking more like the Hulk than a professional golfer these days. He's been documenting his incredible gains in both weight and swing speed over the past three months, which makes his return must-see TV. Will DeChambeau be consistently crushing drives over 350 yards? Will his shirts even fit anymore? If you want to see what he looks like, here you go.
Tiger Woods
Who doesn't want to see how Tiger Woods will play after a lengthy layoff? He looked extremely sharp during The Match II, hitting every fairway at Medalist Golf Club while carrying teammate Peyton Manning to victory.
The break should have done wonders for Woods' ailing back. The last time he took a few months off, Woods won the Zozo Championship in his return in October 2019. Is win No. 83 around the corner?
Brooks Koepka
Brooks Koepka seemed a little lost prior to the cancellation of the Players Championship in March, so the hiatus may have been a blessing in disguise for the former world No. 1. Like Woods, time away allowed Koepka the chance to return to full health and reignite his competitive fire. Expectations should be sky-high for the four-time major winner.
Rory McIlroy
There might not be a player impacted more by a three-month pause than Rory McIlroy. The world No. 1 was playing sensational golf early in 2020 and was on the brink of collecting another victory. But the break halted his momentum, which may take some time to regather once play resumes.
Jordan Spieth
Jordan Spieth was awarded the rare opportunity to step away while struggling midseason. Usually, golfers are forced to play through the tough times and work out the kinks on the fly. But Spieth had the chance to do a full reset of his game and figure things out behind the scenes. We'll know soon enough whether he took advantage of the time off.
Patrick Reed
Remember Patrick Reed? It seems like eons ago when Reed was dominating headlines for his sand-sweeping incident in the Bahamas and the Presidents Cup distractions that followed. He then appeared more motivated than ever to silence critics and did so with a well-earned victory at the WGC-Mexico Championship. How everyone's favorite villain responds after the time off will be interesting to witness, especially with no fans heckling him for the first few events.
