Report: Canelo ordered to fight Yildirim for WBC super-middleweight title
The World Boxing Council has ordered four-division world champion Canelo Alvarez to take on Avni Yildirim for the super-middleweight title, according to James Dielhenn of Sky Sports.
Yildirim (21-2-0, 12 KOs) is the mandatory challenger for the super-middleweight belt after David Benavidez was stripped of the title for failing to make weight over the weekend. The 29-year-old Yildirim is the No. 1-ranked contender for the belt.
Alvarez (53-1-2, 36 KOs) has won belts in the super-welterweight, middleweight, super-middle, and light-heavyweight divisions. The 30-year-old Mexican was scheduled to fight Sept. 12 but has yet to finalize a bout.
Alvarez hasn't fought since he defeated Sergey Kovalev for the WBO light heavyweight title in November 2019.
