Rodgers lauds Dak for discussing mental health: 'That's true courage'
Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is the latest NFLer to praise Dallas Cowboys signal-caller Dak Prescott for publically opening up about his recent mental health struggles.
"I saw what Dak said, I applaud him," said Rodgers on Wednesday, per Matt Schneidman of The Athletic. "I think it's phenomenal (that he's) speaking out. That's true courage, and that's true strength. It's not a weakness at all.
"And other peoples' opinions of Dak has nothing to do with him; that's their own insecurities about their inability to deal with their own shit, probably. I applaud Dak, and (Hayden) Hurst as well had some words for him after the game. I think it's a beautiful thing when people start talking about it."
The 27-year-old star recently revealed he experienced anxiety and depression and sought help this offseason due to his older brother Jace's suicide and the COVID-19 pandemic.
After Dallas' comeback win against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 2, Hayden chased down Prescott to commend the quarterback for coming forward.
The heartwarming moment between the two players soon went viral:
Earlier this year, the former first-round tight end revealed that his own battle with depression led to a suicide attempt.
At the time, Prescott said he's never experienced mental health issues before, and that being vulnerable helped him recover.
"When you have thoughts that you've never had, I think that's more so than anything a chance to realize it and recognize it, to be vulnerable about it," Prescott said, according to ESPN's Todd Archer.
"I think being open about it and not holding those feelings in was one of the better things for me," he added.
