Reds GM: We haven't had substantial talks with Bauer
Cincinnati Reds general manager Nick Krall hasn't had any serious talks with free-agent ace Trevor Bauer about a new contract.
"We haven't really had substantial conversations with where we are this offseason," Krall told 700-WLW's "Hot Stove League" on Wednesday. "Who knows? Anything could happen. I wouldn't rule anything out. It just depends on what Trevor wants to do and where he wants to go."
Krall acknowledged the Reds are trying to figure out how to fill their needs during the offseason, which includes the possibility of losing the reigning NL Cy Young winner.
"For us, at this point, we've lost Trevor Bauer and trying to figure out how to fill that fifth starter spot," Krall said. "Can we create some competition if we don't fill it another way?"
Bauer led the NL in ERA (1.73), WHIP (0.79), complete games (two), and shutouts (two) while recording 100 strikeouts to only 17 walks.
Cincinnati added to its pitching staff Wednesday after swinging a four-player trade with the Colorado Rockies that saw former highly-touted prospect Jeff Hoffman head to the Reds.
