Report: Washington finalizing deal with Hurney to become GM
The Washington Football Team is finalizing a deal with Marty Hurney to become the club's new general manager, reports NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Washington is expected to announce the move later Tuesday, Rapoport adds.
The former Carolina Panthers GM was labeled as the top candidate for the Washington job Monday. He'll reunite with head coach Ron Rivera, who worked with Hurney in Carolina.
Washington didn't have a GM for the 2020 season. Rivera ran football operations while vice president of player personnel Kyle Smith was in charge of the draft.
The Panthers fired Hurney in December.
Washington won the NFC East with a 7-9 record this season to make its first playoff appearance since 2015. The club lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the wild-card round.
