The Pittsburgh Penguins are interviewing Ron Hextall for their general manager job Thursday, reports TSN's Darren Dreger.

Hextall was listed as one of 20 reported candidates to be interested in the position following the surprising resignation of Hall of Famer Jim Rutherford.

Hextall currently works in the Los Angeles Kings' front office as a senior advisor. The 56-year-old previously served as the GM of the Philadelphia Flyers from 2014 to 2018. He's responsible for acquiring the majority of the Flyers squad that won the club's first playoff series in eight years last season.

The Penguins were reportedly granted permission to interview Chris Drury, Chris McFarland, and John Ferguson Jr. earlier this week, although Drury withdrew his name from the running Wednesday.
