Kerr won't overuse Curry to 'chase wins'
Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr remains intent on not overusing Stephen Curry this season, even in narrow games like the one his team lost on Monday night in San Antonio.
"I'm into the long game. We're counting on Steph here for a long time - many, many years," Kerr said, according to The Athletic's Anthony Slater.
The Warriors are without an injured Klay Thompson for the campaign, and Kerr is keen on maintaining a long-term approach.
"I'm not interested in grinding through this season, which is already a difficult season with all the COVID regulations and the nature of the games themselves in these eerie empty stadiums," Kerr said.
Curry played 36 minutes during the 105-100 defeat to the Spurs. Following a breather in the final frame, the six-time All-Star was forced to wait until a stoppage with 5:33 left in the fourth quarter to check in again.
The Warriors were outscored by seven points in the fourth. However, Kerr says that running his sharpshooter into the ground for a win amid a lost season is counterproductive.
"This is, for me, for our organization, we're not throwing Steph out there for 40 minutes to chase wins," Kerr said.
"We got another game tomorrow," he added. "We want Steph to be playing at a high level for many years. So we're going to stay disciplined and try to keep him at that 34-35-minute mark."
