Embiid set for MRI after hyperextending knee in win over Wizards
Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid will have an MRI after hyperextending his left knee during Friday's blowout victory over the Washington Wizards, Sixers coach Doc Rivers told ESPN's Tim Bontemps.
Embiid clutched his left knee in noticeable pain after landing awkwardly on his left leg midway through the third quarter following a dunk.
The four-time All-Star refused the assistance of a stretcher and eventually limped down the tunnel at the Capital One Arena after lying on the court for several minutes.
Embiid, who missed Thursday's victory over the Chicago Bulls due to health and safety protocols, is enjoying an MVP-caliber campaign for the Eastern Conference-leading Sixers. He was averaging 30.2 points and 11.6 rebounds per game heading into Friday's road contest.
Both Embiid and Sixers teammate Ben Simmons were forced to miss the All-Star Game after coming into contact with a hairdresser who tested positive for the coronavirus.
Despite missing Simmons for Friday's contest and Embiid for much of the second half, the Sixers outclassed the Wizards 127-101 to notch their fourth consecutive victory. The Sixers have now scored 125-plus points in four straight outings, a feat the team hadn't achieved since the 1968-69 season.
