Lions' Campbell 'would love' to have lion at facility to motivate players
Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell's dedication to his team's success is on another level.
Campbell recently talked to Lions owner Sheila Ford Hamp about having a pet lion to walk around the facilities and motivate his players.
"I don't think we're going to be able to do it, but I would love to literally just have a pet lion," he said on "Pardon My Take." "Just a legit pet lion, on a big-ass chain. He really is my pet. We just walk around the building. We go out to practice. We're in seven-on-seven. We're behind the kicker when he's kicking."
He added: "On command, you could train him. If one of your groups didn't do it you can just take him over to their section and having him take a dump right there in the middle of where their section is at."
Campbell's willingness to bring a Super Bowl trophy to Detroit still has more to it.
The 45-year-old coach was asked if he'd give up an arm to a lion for a championship ring, and he didn't hesitate.
"Yes, I would," he said.
Campbell's interviews are quickly becoming must-watch content for Lions fans. He had a memorable introductory press conference earlier this year, saying his club will "bite a kneecap off" its opponents in 2021.
The Lions hired Campbell in January to replace head coach Matt Patricia. Campbell previously served as the assistant head coach and tight ends coach for the New Orleans Saints from 2016-20.
Detroit last made the playoffs in 2016 and its most recent postseason victory dates back to the 1991 campaign.
