Hornets, Borrego agree to multi-year extension
The Charlotte Hornets signed head coach James Borrego to a multi-year contract extension, the team announced.
There's one year left on Borrego's current deal with the organization. He just completed his third full season in charge of the Hornets.
Borrego became the first full-time Latino head coach in NBA history when he inked a four-year deal with Charlotte in May 2018 following stints as an assistant with the New Orleans Hornets (now the Pelicans), San Antonio Spurs, and the Orlando Magic.
The 43-year-old has guided the Hornets to a 95-124 record across three seasons, including a 33-39 mark this past campaign.
Charlotte finished 10th in the Eastern Conference before suffering a 144-117 defeat to the Indiana Pacers during the first play-in tournament round.
