The San Francisco 49ers played the second half of Sunday's 28-21 loss to the Seattle Seahawks with rookie quarterback Trey Lance under center as a replacement for Jimmy Garoppolo, who suffered a calf injury.

San Francisco listed Garoppolo, who didn't miss any snaps in the first half, as questionable prior to the third quarter, but he didn't reenter the game. He went 14-of-23 passing for 165 yards and one touchdown against one interception before being sidelined.

Garoppolo said postgame he hopes the injury will sideline him for "just a couple weeks," according to David Lombardi of The Athletic. He added he'll undergo an MRI on Monday.

Lance took over with the game tied 7-7, and he finished with 157 yards and two touchdowns on 9-of-18 passing. He also amassed 41 yards on seven rushing attempts.

The third overall pick this past April had only logged situational appearances this season. He tossed a 5-yard touchdown pass in Week 1 and added a rushing score in Week 3.

Meanwhile, Garoppolo entered Week 4 with a 67.4 completion percentage and 760 passing yards with four touchdowns against one interception through three games.

Both the 49ers and Seahawks are now 2-2 four weeks into the 2021 season.
