Report: Mets unlikely to hire Brewers' Stearns, Athletics' Beane

The New York Mets' search for a big-name executive to run their baseball operations doesn't appear to be going very well.

New York is increasingly unlikely to land Oakland Athletics executive vice president Billy Beane or Milwaukee Brewers president of baseball operations David Stearns, sources told Andy Martino of SNY. Both executives are still under contract with their current teams.

The Mets could try to hire a new young general manager instead, according to Martino.

Stearns said Friday that he and his family are happy in Milwaukee.

Three-time World Series-winning executive Theo Epstein also reportedly turned down an opportunity to lead the Mets.

The club is without a GM after placing Zack Scott on administrative leave in September following his arrest for driving while intoxicated.
