The Brooks-Bryson hate appears real ahead of The Match V

Most golf fans are well aware of the ongoing feud between Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau. Yet the announcement of Capital One's latest exhibition, The Match V, just one week after their infamous hug at the 2021 Ryder Cup raised some eyebrows.

While the Ryder Cup may have united the pair for one magical week in Wisconsin, golf's two most polarizing stars explained on separate media conference calls that the beef is far from squashed.

"I wouldn't put much on a forced hug," Koepka said Monday night.

"It was definitely a little forced," DeChambeau agreed. "The team wanted us to do it, and to be honest, I was surprised he did it. ... But it definitely felt forced, there wasn't an apology or anything like that. Until I get an apology for what he's said and whatnot, nothing will change."

For anyone assuming DeChambeau is trying to generate interest in Friday's spectacle, he insists the beef is "all real" on his end.

"It's disgusting the way the guy has tried to knock me down," he said.

However, DeChambeau would be wise to not wait on an apology.

"I've said it 10 different times, I've never really liked him," Koepka said. "I think we played together maybe when he was an amateur at Augusta, that was the only time that I can think of that we ever played (together).

"We didn't get along there, didn't get along since he got out (on TOUR), and then he said that stuff to (my caddie) and I just thought it was crap. You don't go ask my caddie to say something to me. Just come to me. Don't be a little baby about."

While the feud might be being played up a bit ahead of Friday, it's not a stretch to say that these two genuinely dislike each other. And that should make for some fireworks Friday.
