Report: Kyrie to make season debut Wednesday vs. Pacers
Brooklyn Nets star Kyrie Irving is expected to make his season debut Wednesday on the road against the Indiana Pacers, sources told The Athletic's Shams Charania.
Irving has yet to play for the Nets this season after the club elected to hold the seven-time All-Star out of all team activities rather than allow him to participate as a part-time player.
However, Brooklyn recently reversed its decision as numerous Nets players entered the NBA's health and safety protocols.
Irving rejoined his teammates for practice last month, but his return was delayed further after the former No. 1 overall pick entered protocols.
Since Irving is unvaccinated, he's only eligible to suit up for road contests due to New York City's vaccination mandate. Brooklyn has 24 away games remaining this season, including Wednesday's matchup.
Irving averaged 26.9 points, six assists, 4.8 boards, and 1.4 steals across 54 appearances during the previous campaign. The 29-year-old can become a free agent next season if he declines his $36.5-million player option for 2022-23.
