Serena rookie card shatters women's sports card record

A Serena Williams rookie card fetched a record-breaking $117,000 in a PWCC Marketplace auction over the weekend.
The sale set a new record for any women's sports card, shattering the previous mark of $44,280 that was set in October by another Williams card.

The rookie card was released in the July 1999 issue of Sports Illustrated For Kids, appearing on a perforated sheet inside the magazine along with cards for eight other athletes, according to PWCC. This particular card is graded a Gem Mint 10.
