Jays' Schneider: It's 'odd' for Judge to be looking into dugout during AB
Toronto Blue Jays manager John Schneider was a little perplexed why New York Yankees star Aaron Judge glanced a few times into his team's dugout right before hitting his second homer of the game Monday.
"It's kind of odd that a hitter would be looking in that direction. He's obviously looking in that direction for a reason," Schneider said postgame when asked about Judge's behavior, according to Keegan Matheson of MLB.com.
Schneider added the Blue Jays will look into making sure they aren't tipping pitches.
The Sportsnet broadcast duo of Buck Martinez and Dan Shulman also noticed Judge's glances during the game:
Judge said he was looking into the Yankees' dugout because some of his teammates were still irked after manager Aaron Boone was thrown out of the game during the eighth inning.
"There was a lot of chirping from our dugout, which I really didn't like in a situation where it was a 6-0 game," Judge said, according to Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet. "When Boonie got tossed, I was trying to save Boonie by calling time out. Like 'hold up here.' So, I was trying to see who was chirping in the dugout."
Blue Jays reliever Jay Jackson, who served up the blast to Judge, was also caught off guard.
"I haven't seen hitters do that before (in my experience), so I can't say what he was doing. ... We'll see what plays out from this," Jackson said, according to Hazel Mae of Sportsnet. "Next time, we'll have a different game plan."
He added: "If he knew it was coming, I'm glad he didn't miss it."
