Adams downplays disconnect with Raiders' brass: 'I'm excited to be here'
Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams addressed his comments about his relationship with the team's front office and coaching staff, saying he doesn't have an issue with head coach Josh McDaniels and general manager Dave Ziegler.
"I'm a Raider and I'm excited to be here," Adams said Thursday, according to Vic Tafur of The Athletic. "I love my head coach, and I love the general manager. ... I have no reason to lie. One thing I don't do is BS."
Adams sparked speculation around the NFL after he recently said he and the Raiders didn't see "eye to eye on what we think is best for us right now."
"(The front office) think this is the best bet for us right now to put us in a position to be urgent," Adams told Mirin Fader of The Ringer in an article published in mid-May, an apparent reference to the Raiders releasing longtime quarterback Derek Carr and signing Jimmy Garoppolo.
Adams said the quote was taken out of context.
"You can grab something and run with it if you want to get clicks," Adams said, according to Pro Football Talk's Josh Alper. "That's what people often do with me if I misspeak or speak up."
He added: "If you're that bored, go play Monopoly or some shit."
Adams praised Garoppolo, who signed a three-year contract with the team in free agency.
"Jimmy's a great guy, love him to death," he said, per ESPN's Paul Gutierrez.
McDaniels said Thursday that he had no problem with Adams' comments and the star pass-catcher has "an opinion and a voice because (he's) earned it," according to Gutierrez.
The Raiders acquired Adams as part of a blockbuster trade from the Green Bay Packers during the 2022 offseason, reuniting him with Carr, the Raiders' all-time leading passer and Adams' college teammate at Fresno State. The duo had long hoped to play together in the NFL.
While Adams led the league with 14 touchdown passes en route to earning his third consecutive first-team All-Pro berth, Carr failed to live up to the hype under center and was benched late in the regular season. The Raiders then released the 32-year-old and he joined the New Orleans Saints on a four-year deal this offseason.
